I don’t have an empty mind, nor do I possess a devil’s workshop. But here’s something that you will totally agree with. When it comes to making excuses for playing video games, haven’t these totally worked for you?
“I need to conduct a research on why people are so addicted to them”
By giving the ‘research’ excuse, you make it seem like what you are doing is a part of your curriculum and for a greater purpose. Forget tolerance, parents are more than happy, even willing to help, when they get to know that you are going to contribute in science. How many times have you played this card when they start questioning you about the number of hours you spend playing video games? Hope you understand that playing this card repeatedly could put you into trouble, unless you’re actually working on a research.
“I am not able to get through this module. We’re planning a group study”
Being passed on from generations, this excuse works for you the most. Does it not? Though parents doubt about the group study being a ‘study’ thing, they don’t stop you either. There’s always this voice within that stops them from stopping you. They are willing to help you in any way possible, so that you get thorough with “that” module.
“I think there’s some problem my phone/tab/laptop. I need to check if other apps are working.”
They probably think that you deserve to explore more of your personal devices. Hence the excuse stands considered.
“My family is going through a tough time”
This totally works for your boss, right? Family issues stands as a big time iron clad excuse as long as you don’t leave it vague. No one will pry to check if you are depressed, unless the boss is like “I think you should learn to keep your personal life away from professional.” But that would add to his negatives by the other employees.
“They teach you a lot”
They teach you a lot. The best part is when you tell them that a video game helps you gain experience in how to deal with a real life situation. Are you kidding me? So, you are telling me that you are learning to shoot or perform an Operation Finish Terrorism when you play CS?
“I need to de-stress”
You’ve had a really bad day and you need to de-stress. The only real reason you might have cited so far. Tell them that the only way for you to save your sanity is by playing video games for half the day.
