How To Dress For a Job Interview?

Recently, The Editor-in-chief of Vogue Anna Wintour has shared a comprehensive guide of dressing up for an interview. During her stint as an Editor in Vogue, she has accumulated wisdom on dressing and critically hair-splits over dress codes. Anna Wintour things a collective body of professional mostly go wrong in suiting up during job interviews.

Anna Wintour is the fashion queen bee for sure. She thinks that most people end up wearing something that doesn’t suit them. She has also claimed that people who dress to impress her, rather than impressing themselves, often miss the mark.

Anna Wintour was quoted as saying, “I’ll always remember a young man who came in in a dress and a handbag, and I gave him the job on the spot. You have to dress for yourself. It’s the same for any job you might be going for. I think it doesn’t do yourself a service to fake it.’

Anna revealed in the latest episode of Vogue’s “Go Ask Anna” video series that she could have an inkling when someone showed up for an interview wearing something with the tags still on them. It was easy to figure out for her that they might have bought those clothes that morning or may be the night before. Even worse, sometimes they end up wearing something that don’t accentuate their personality but do the reverse.

Anna Wintour wholeheartedly praises ‘Leggings’ as a very wise pick. It makes a perfect day-to-day wear, especially the black ones. Anna, to our greatest respite, said that the acceptance of your personal style is going high. You can feel more relaxed and confident in something that gives you optimal comfort. But of course, dress codes vary by industry. You will stick out like a sore thumb if you’re in a three-piece-suit and turn up in a tech start-up full of aspirants wearing jeans and hoodies. Similarly, if you wearing vibrant prints and gold sneakers, you will partly impress the team of Vogue into hiring you as it won’t work for a Senior Management position.

The expert tip to never go wrong in a Job Interview, take cue from pictures posted on its site or its workers’ social media profiles to figure out the dressing pattern. You can also get a sense of the company culture. Also, you can ask anyone in your network about what not to wear in the company.

Definitely, fields like law and finance are conservative when it comes to their dress code. You won’t enjoy a leeway to dress comfortably. Your clothes are the main tool to communicate with the world so dress smart. It is your outfit that should do a little bit of talking in a job interview.
