Organisations are gradually becoming less lenient towards underperformers. Heads must take regular curative methods on them as right guidance can assist in turning them around
1) Give constant feedback
Give regular useful feedback in a non-intimidating way. Tell them what they have done well and where they require to improve.
2) Advice and show direction
Supervisors should be tolerant when handling underperformers. Doing a bit of hand-holding is essential.
3) Instruct to improve abilities
An underperformer may be deficient of certain skill set, and the company can look at job rotation and improving the abilities. It might also look at giving the worker an easier responsibility if he feels stressed in his existing task.k
4) Put time frame
The worker must then be provided a timeframe to get better. It can differ from organisation to organisation, but 3-6 months is believed preferable.
5) Plan exit approach
If nothing works, the worker will have to be asked to go. Supervisors must become more definite with regards to every evaluation.
