It seems Khan was one who spotted the leggy lass first in an endorsement and instantly recommended her to Sooraj Barjatya. Since DP was still mulling over the idea of joining films, she turned down Sallu’s offer. After a serious thought, the babe was seen giving her nod to Farah Khan’s film Om Shanti Om opposite Shahrukh Khan.
Imagine if DP would have agreed to work with Sallu bhai, she would have had been a part of Salman Khan’s camp today. Since DP got off to such a flying start with OSO, Bachna Ae Haseeno, Karthik Calling Karthik, Love Aaj Kal et al, you think it would have had been the same if Sallu had launched her in films like Ready or Partner. Except for Katrina, whoever Salman has launched till now hasn’t exactly made it big. Case in point: Zarine Khan, Sneha Ullal). What happens to Daisy Shah is yet to be seen.
I personally think Padukone’s career would have gone to the dogs if she had agreed to become Salman’s protégé. Playing the fiery Veronica from Cocktail or the demure Naina from Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani would have just been a dream for the actor.
Let’s take a look at some of her cool roles
Cocktail: Veronica wouldn’t be even half as cool without the kinda zing Deepika added to the character. A li’l eccentric in the head, at the same time portraying a desire to have a conventional family life, just like a normal girl – Veronica was complex and DP did absolute justice to it.
Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ramleela: As Leela, she was fearless. She kissed, she loved, she bared her feelings – the feisty Leela walked away with the Filmfare award for the best actor this year. I am sure there are many more awards to come.
Chennai Express: Although the movie is an absolute dud according to me, Deepika did her bit by bringing her humorous self to the fore as Meena. She totally nailed with her South Indian accent in the film.
Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani: As Naina, Deepika cut a fine figure in her nerdy look. And of course her and Ranbir’s chemistry was out of this world!
