Mary not only made herself but her country proud by winning an Olympic medal in the 2012 games and is ranked No. 4 AIBA Women’s Ranking Flyweight.
When news about Priyanka Chopra, playing the role of a boxer, Mary Kom, did the rounds, I wasn’t taken by surprise.
Priyanka is known for her versatile roles and she does complete justice to the character.
Mary not only made herself but her country proud by winning an Olympic medal in the 2012 games and is ranked No. 4 AIBA Women’s Ranking Flyweight.
This film will be a tribute to India’s woman boxer, Mary Kom – her life will be portrayed in a biographical film directed by Omung Kumar, starring Priyanka Chopra in a leading role.
But did you ever wonder, WHY only Priyanka Chopra and not someone else? Here are the reasons…
Versatility
Priyanka is a versatile actor. Since the inception of her career, she has never been seen doting similar roles. She has pushed herself to her limits and has never failed. Each time she appears on the big screen, the character is always new, different and unique – be it a desi girl in Dostana or an autistic girl in Barfi, she’s done it all…So playing a role of a boxer, shouldn’t take you by surprise either.
Hard-work
She is hard-working and this reflects in her work. She is always seen studying the life of her character to the T, giving no room for complains. Her Instagram posts, speak million words about her hard-work; as she is always seen running around from one country to the other, leaving no stone unturn. There are some images of her actually living with Mary Kom, much as to say, “Hey guys, I’ve got this!”
Acting Ability
Only a fool would doubt her acting ability. She rehearses day in and day out, so that she doesn’t waste time of the others on set. Since her acting debut in a Tamil film called Thamizhan in 2002, there is no turning back as she has featured in numerous films, 80% of them being box-office successes.
Director’s Favourite
Her versatile acting, is one of the major reasons, she is preferred by most of our Hindi cinema directors. Without her director’s help, she studies the character on her own. She is not choosy and as far as I recollect, she was never known for creating tantrums on the sets.
According to me, these reasons are the defining factors for choosing her to play the character of Mary Kom.
