Subhash Ghai’s Kaanchi and Sai Kabir’s Revolver Rani are slated to release on 25 April and 11 April respectively. While Kaanchi looks like one of those movies intended to give some sort of a thought provoking message, Revolver Rani is a film with a rustic feel. Kangna Ranaut is the cool gangster in the movie, wielding her gun with great style and declaring how she’s absolutely crazy about phun(fun), phasion (fashion) and gun in that typical UP twang.
Subhash Ghai’s last film was Yuvraaj back in 2008. Practically after 6 years, the director decided to get into the filmmaking grind again, but this time with a newcomer called Mishti. She looks promising as she mouths those heavy-duty dialogues along with co-star Karthik Tiwari (the Pyaar ka Punchnama dude, remember?). But somehow the promo doesn’t excite me enough to draw me to the theatre in the vicinity. It looks like a tried and tested cliché. The feel of the film is a mix of ‘Taal’ and ‘Pardes’, with the main lead trying to bring about a revolution in her desi avatar and courageous thinking.
Revolver Rani is more my kind of a film. Of whatever I have seen in the trailer, the dialogues are crisp and interesting. The satirical theme and the below the belt lines which Ranaut is mouthing like one of those unsophisticated hooligans is mind-blowing. I totally see her picking an award for this one. You have to see the way she bullies Vir Das in the movie. There’s a scene in which she says Das, “Kadaknath murga khaoge toh kadak rahoge.” Well, for people who don’t know what that is ‘Kadaknath’ is a breed of chicken with black flesh. But looks like Das didn’t get that, he perhaps thinks the chicken is burnt or something.
