The one word that describes some people the best is ‘˜dense’. And I am afraid I have to place one of the most famous babes in Bollywood -Kareena Kapoor – in this category.

The actor is under the scanner again for doing something she’s really good at – saying something that’s infuriatingly thoughtless. So there has been a lot of brouhaha that the babe agreed to do an item number in N Linguswamy’s Tamil film Anjaan starring popular South actor Suriya. But when Kareena was asked about this, instead of choosing a polite yes or no, she blurted, “I haven’t signed any such film. I don’t even know who this Suriya and N Linguswamy are. I have never seen them and have zero interest in acting in non-Hindi films – whether it’s down South or Hollywood.”
Now what irks me here is the babe who claims to be such a hardcore Bollywood loyalist, must know that most of the hit Hindi films these days are remakes of South Indian flicks. Be it a Ghajini or the upcoming Akshay Kumar starrer Holiday –A soldier is never off duty, a remake of Tamil film Thupakki – Hindi films now and then keep turning back to the South for a heavy dose of inspiration. I hope Kareena also knows that the Akshay Kumar starrer Gabbar that she’s going to be a part of is a remake of Tamil film Ramana.
And I wonder what’s with the attitude of sticking with Hindi films. A true actor, who’s passionate about his work, would be more than hungry to experiment with all kinds of genres and cinema. Guess, Bebo loves her comfort zone way too much. No wonder there’s a serious dearth of Meryl Streeps in Bollywood – they all want to be a part of the herd at the end of the day.
Well, maybe next time around Kareena should try and be a li’l less impolite when she’s addressing stars like Suriya- who’s an equally famous name in the film fraternity. And a li’l knowledge about your neighboring industries will only make people respect you all the more Mrs Khan…
