Total Siyappa starring Ali Zafar and Yami Gautam looks like one super cool rom-com. Directed by E Niwas, the movie will release on January 31, 2014. While Indo-Pak relations have always been under the political scanner, this film makes sure they lighten up a li’l by weaving humour around the whole India-Pakistan dushmani.
Ali Zafar was last seen in Chashme Baddoor which tanked, crashed and created an unbearably screeching sound at the box office. And Yami Gautam, after revelling in the success of Vicky Donor, is all set to be a part of another refreshingly funny movie which I must say, looks quite promising.
The real life couple, Anupam Kher and Kiron Kher, are seen playing the reel life couple too. Kiron is seen stepping into the shoes of a loud Punjabi mother, who accepts her daughter Yami’s love choice Ali Zafar, even though he’s a Muslim. But the moment she discovers that he’s a Pakistani, all hell breaks loose.
Apart from Yami’s mad parents, the movie has a couple of other crazy characters as well. Yami’s sister who’s coquettish to the hilt and a bunch of loud Punjabi who love to pontificate.
A funny Indo-Pak romantic film; this definitely doesn’t sound run-of-the-mill. Let’s just hope trouble makers don’t create unnecessary drama over the concept of the film, since opinions are a dime a dozen and it doesn’t take much time for people to get offended these days…
