As Shah Rukh Khan readies himself for Happy New Year, his next grand release directed by good friend Farah Khan, we take a look at the actor’s undulating journey over the years. He has attracted his share of flak, got showered with praises at the same time.
He has been thrashed by the media for doing a Ra.One, but appreciated by millions for doing a Chak De! Shahrukh ‘the sexy’ Khan has had his share of ecstatic ups and disappointing downs. It’s really hard to solve the puzzle of what is it about him that makes him the most widely loved star in the country? Is it his perseverance, is it luck, or it’s a bit of both, well, that’s difficult to analyse, just the way it’s hard to find answers to certain questions pertaining life.
But there’s something about SRK, that sets him apart from the herd, call it his charm of X- factor or his dry wit, Shahrukh has until now done enough to etch his name in the pages of Bollywood history. Someday the new generation will read about a guy who stretched his arms in the air, and dreamy-eyed girls heaved a sigh of longing for ‘A man for all seasons’.
Here’s taking you through his interesting life…
His first film:
SRK started off with an important supporting role in Deewana. Who thought the guy who played a character role at one point will emerge as one of the biggest stars of the country. You know what’s amusing though…SRK’s role was first offered to Armaan Kohli (The Bigg Boss guy). AK refused the role because of creative difference and the assignment straight fell on Mr Khan’s lap.
All this really makes you wonder about the kind of games destiny plays with human beings.
Awards:
This is one area that’s hard to cover. His coffers are probably brimming with awards, and its hard give a detailed list of the number of trophies that made him proud, in such a tiny space. But let’s talk about the movies that have helped establish him to be the star that he is today. After winning the debut for Deewana, what trailed behind was a deluge of awards. Be it recognition for playing the sinister guy in Anjaam or the lover boy in Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, winning had almost become a habit for the actor. And of course who can forget movies that set a benchmark in his career. Swades, Chak De India, Devdas – they were all movies par excellence.
IPL hoopla:
After his successful run in the movies, SRK went on to prove that he is an astute entrepreneur as well. He bought Kolkata Night Riders in 2008 along with Juhi Chawla and her husband Jay Mehta.
After KKR couldn’t prove its mettle on the stadium, it set a lot of tongues wagging questioning Khan’s naïve decision to try his hand at mixing business and sports, especially with zero knowledge about the domain. But the actor continued to relentlessly encourage his team, despite their failures. And finally ‘Korbo lorbo jeetbo re’ happened. KKR won the title in 2012 making the big daddy of the team SRK really really proud…
Controversies:
Now who can forget the famous slapgate story? SRK slapped director Shirish Kunder so hard in the face that the noise literally echoed in all the corners of the media circuit. While no one knows what Kunder said to irritate King Khan, but I am glad he got thrashed by the actor. Call it vicarious thrills or whatever, but Kunder deserves that for torturing us with films like Joker and Jaaneman. SRK was in the news once again for lashing out at a security personnel at Wankhede stadium. The reason being, the security dude was rude to his kids. Khan was banned from the stadium since that incident. Phew! SRK’s scuffles do make for some interesting gossip.
Affairs:
There was a rumour at one point that SRK and Juhi Chawla had something going on in between them. The two became very close after Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani. But not sure if there’s any grain of truth to that story. But the one affair that really shook SRK fans was his closeness with Priyanka Chopra. It seems wife Gauri Khan also asked SRK to stop sharing screen space with Piggy Chops for good. If industry birdies are to be believed even SRK’s good friend Karan Johar confronted the Chopra chick and asked her to keep an arm’s length from the family man.
Style statements:
SRK’s style statements range from classy to casual. In Happy New Year he will be seen sporting blonde streaks and long hair. The actor also got a lot of praise from fashionistas for his rugged stubble look in Don 2. In Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, the actor was seen in an out-and-out garish avatar when he was playing the wannabe Punjabi dude. In personal life, SRK loves his monochromes. He likes sticking to his denims and white t-shirts, and according to him that’s a wardrobe essential every fashion conscious person must have.
No matter whatever he did, is doing and will do, his life will be envied by millions of people across the globe.
