Government of India seriously considering asking Saif to return the Padma Shri award bestowed upon him in light of a case against him in the courts. If it happens, it’ll be another low in his life…
Saif Ali Khan is seriously going through some real bad times!
He was conferred the country’s fourth highest civilian award, Padma Shri in the year 2010 for his contribution in the field of art.
For sure, it was a real achievement for him to be given such an honor at such a young age. However, 2012 happened and the consequences of one incident where he lost his cool can lead to stripping away of this honor.
It was in Feb’12 when Saif was arrested with his two friends, Shakeel Ladak and Bilal Amrohi for assaulting an NRI businessman Iqbal Sharma in Taj Mahal Palace Hotel’s Wasabi restaurant.
Iqbal had alleged that not only Saif physically assaulted him but also his father-in-law! However, Saif was later released on bail, but this case is back to haunt the actor as a Mumbai court has framed charges against him. This lead a city-based activist, S.C. Agrawal to file a request with Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), urging them to withdraw the award since the actor doesn’t deserve it anymore! As per the sources, the MHA is seriously considering this application and may take a decision soon in the activist’s favor.
If the government does decide to strip Saif of this highly decorated and prestigious award bestowed upon him, it would be the first of its kind and will add up to Saif’s woes. He is already going through a severe professional crisis with none of his latest movies doing good at box-office. Whether it’s Bullet Raja or the recently released dud, Humshakals, Saif’s as well as the movies’ performances have been constantly questioned! Even as a producer, his movie, Go, Goa, Gone didn’t make much money and turned out to be a disaster.
We wonder what’s happening with Saif!
On one hand he is trying to expand his audience base by doing stupid films like Humshakals, and failing at it, on the other hand he is mistreating the common man at public places by getting violent with them.
We don’t know what actually happened at the hotel and the case is still in the courts, but it really doesn’t seem that big an issue which can’t be resolved by talking and apologizing. If however he does lose his Padma Shri due to this brazen act of his, it will be really idiotic on his part to have worked so hard to receive it and then lose it over a petty issue blown out of proportions!
Guess we will have to wait for the final verdict on this one, but let’s hope lady luck smiles on our Nawab, soon!
