Until I saw Jimmy Shergill impressing with his amazingly refined acting skills, Fugly looked like just another dumb film to me, revolving around the lives of four brats who have time hanging heavily in their hands.
Until I saw Jimmy Shergill impressing with his amazingly refined acting skills, Fugly looked like just another dumb film to me, revolving around the lives of four brats who have time hanging heavily in their hands. The first half of the promo looks super blah as the main protagonist introduces his friends and their idiosyncrasies. Of course they all sing the same ol’ same ol’ clichéd tune of ‘friends come first, no matter what’. But then enters Jimmy Shergill – the rugged Jath cop – rolling his moustache in style and wielding his gun in the coolest way possible. The promo picks momentum and becomes spicier once Shergill gets his charming self on screen.
Produced by Grazing Goat productions, Fugly stars Mohit Marwah (Anil Kapoor’s nephew), Vijender Singh, Kiara Advani (Juhi Chawla’s niece) and Arfi Lamba. The Olympic boxing winner portrays a guy who’s passionate about punching packs in the movie as well. He is seen talking in his usual Haryanvi accent onscreen too. While Singh is all desi, Mohit is the cool city dude who runs an adventure sports business. Kiara steps into the shoes of a fiery chick who kicks men in the wrong place when they try and get evil with her.
These friends have the time of their lives, indulging in a hedonistic lifestyle, until one day things go more than just plain awry. These brats end up taking panga with the sliest cop in town, Jimmy Shergill. And no points for guessing, all hell breaks loose.
While I had almost dismissed the movie after watching the first half, it’s just Jimmy’s entry and the twist in the second half that makes me give Fugly an enthusiastic benefit of doubt. The title is super interesting, let’s wait and watch if the movie turns out to be interesting too…
