Set in the ‘60s, the director Ananth Narayan Mahadevan has tried to make it all scintillatingly retro. The two heroines in the movie are seen taking a heavy dose of inspiration from yesteryear beauties Zeenat Aman and Parveen Babi when it comes to the styling part.
Of course acting-wise, they are nowhere close to the icons. From doing a substandard ‘white-saree’ emulation of the famous Satyam Shivam Sundaram scene in which Zeenat is seen watering the holy Tulsi plant to running on the beach like the sexy siren Parveen Babi; the director is seen resorting to cheap imitations unabashedly. Even Himesh’s dialogue delivery makes your skin crawl. The nasal singing in which he generously tries to incorporate the ‘60s musical flavour makes you feel as if you are listening to a broken gramophone emanating ear-numbing sounds.
Amidst all this I wonder what Honey Singh is doing in the movie. The musician is doing extremely well for himself. By God’s grace he has way too many assignments to take care of. So if he really wanted to try his hand at emoting, why did he have to give a kickstart to his acting career with such a ‘wannabe-ish’ film?
Himesh has lost an incredible amount of weight. But for some reason he can never be and never will be the quintessential ‘hero’ material. His desperate urge to act like a stud makes him fall flat on his face time and again. It gave me the uncontrollable giggles when I heard him produce that husky voice in one of the songs in the promo. Holding his champagne glass aloft in style, this Gujju dude is trying awfully hard to seek some attention…please give him some by watching the promo and let us know what you think of it…
