While anybody who is passionate to do some good cinema would kill to work with Mira Nair – the director known for making films Monsoon Wedding and Namesake – Arshad Warsi seems to be coming up with lame excuses to why he can’t do a Mira Nair film. It seems the filmmaker approached the actor for an audition. But since Arshad dreads auditions and has never given one so far in his career, he thought giving it a shot doesn’t make any sense. He says that directors usually approach him if they think he suits a role.
Arshad was approached for Shantaram and one more untitled film by Nair. To me it seems like that the actor considers it way too infra dig to give an audition at this stage of his career. Or maybe Mr Warsi fears rejection. But giving a good Mira Nair film a shot is much better than having a slew of flops in your resume. Joe Bhi Karvalho, Jolly LLB, Zilla Ghaziabad et al, the actor has hardly delivered a decent movie in a long time. The only movie that’s worth the wait now is Dedh Ishqiya, in which it looks like his potential is utilised to the fullest.
Maybe Warsi should keep his ego aside and make an earnest attempt to work with talented directors like Mira Nair. It won’t harm to have a couple of good films in your filmography list Arshad!
