The actor is versatile, ask her to play a royal Begum, and she will bring her gorgeous self to the fore, ask her to be a danda-wielding local village activist, and she steps into the shoes of a fiery fighter.
But can she be the Meryl Streep of Bollywood? The answer is pretty simple, only if we make good films for actors her age, she can. Our stories still revolve around 20 or 30 somethings romancing each other.
The scene seems to be changing, sadly at a snail’s pace. We do get to see Mads in something like Dedh Ishqiya or Gulaab Gang, playing the main protagonist, but not that often. Even if films like that are made, it won’t guarantee great results at the box office ‘coz clearly we all know that people love to watch Salman Khan yanking at his jacket more than Madhuri saying some meaningful lines on screen.
So there’s no guarantee if Dixit can ever be the Meryl Streep of Bollywood. For now we just have to take delight in the fact that we are getting to see new stuff once in a while and the experimentation is on…
