The babe has been offered the role of Amrita Pritam opposite Farhan Akhtar
Kareena Kapoor has been offered the role of Amrita Pritam opposite Farhan Akhtar .While Bebo is still in the process of going through the script, we hear Akhtar has given the nod to his second biopic after Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. He will be stepping into the shoes of popular poet and film lyricist Sahir Ludhianvi.
While it sounds like a great pairing, we wonder if Kareena Kapoor Khan can do justice to the role of Amrita Pritam…
Who is Amrita Pritam?
She is a famous Punjabi writer and poet. Her songs and stories have been translated into several languages. She has had a tough life as her mother died at 11 and she migrated from Lahore to India with her father in 1947. She found her solace in writing in her lonely phase. She undertook responsibilities at a very young age and tried her best to sustain in an orthodox society. Her love story with Sahir Ludhianvi was apparently not a successful one. While some say it was a case of unrequited affection, few records suggest that the two had a passionate affair which ended after another woman entered Sahir’s life.
What does the role require?
– A deep understanding of what a writer’s life is like
– An ability to portray a poet’s pathos onscreen
– Creative people are also a little eccentric; maybe a slight amount of madness will be perfect for the role
– A mature demeanour
– The passion should be visible in the way she loves as well as writes
Will Bebo be able to pull this off?
She has done serious roles before and if she puts her heart and soul into something she can definitely do justice to it. But very rarely have we seen that kind of drive in the babe to steer clear of commercial hogwash and do something out-and-out hatke. She was excellent in movies like Chameli, Dev and Refugee. We wait to see if KK has the moxie to take up this role and ditch that bubbly ‘Jab We Met’ mask for an intense poetic avatar.
