Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Bhoothnath Returns looks like a fun flick, carrying with itself a thought-provoking message. Big B was fabulous in the original Bhoothnath, creating a special space for himself in the genre of kiddie cinema.

Big B was fabulous in the original Bhoothnath, creating a special space for himself in the genre of kiddie cinema. And I guess he is all set to do that again. In fact, this looks more exciting that the first part, with many interesting layers and twists. It all starts with Amitabh Bachchan getting orders from the senior authority of the ghost world to go back to earth and scare more kids around so that he doesn’t get blacklisted for good from his own community. But what ensues is a great deal of chaos and drama. The adorable ghost that he is; he sings, he dances, he overacts. And then he does what’s expected from him the least, he enrolls himself to fight elections with the corrupt Boman Irani in the opposition. Boman’s confusing grin transforms into a hysterical fit of laughter when he discovers that a ghost has stood against him for the coveted position in politics.
What’s interesting is filmmakers are experimenting with this genre. With unforgettable films like Stanley Ka Dabba and Chillar Party setting quite a benchmark, I am hoping Bhoothnath Returns will only enthrall us with its exciting storyline and masaledar dialogues.
It’s cute the way Big B is trying to scare the pants off the kids by hollering ‘main bhooth hoon’. But in vain, all he gets in return is barrels of mocking laughter.
There is no way I am going to miss Shahrukh Khan and Juhi Chawla’s presence in this one. This is a film about Big B and a bunch of talented kids – they are carrying it solely on their shoulders.
