The film was a much awaited one with the famous fight about the smoking disclaimer.
Being someone completely against smoking, I had always been very stringent about the non-smoking disclaimers to be used everywhere.
But the point that Anurag Kashyap raised is quite valid. Basically his argument is that to curb smoking is the department of the Health Ministry.
Why should he be forced to advertise the disclaimer in his film?
Kashyap felt that his creative rights are restricted. The disclaimer would be a distraction in the scene. (Well Sir even the cigarette is a solid distraction but anyways that’s my opinion.)
Even though all the non-smokers wouldn’t like it but his point is valid indeed.
To think rationally, smoking isn’t banned in our country.
In fact instead of targeting the film makers to force a disclaimer on the scenes why can’t the Govt. show same amount of stringency and actually help in some substantial reduction in the number of smokers in the country?
If the product isn’t banned in the country then this process of moral policing the film makers hampers the creativity.
Anurag Kashyap halted the release of the film challenging the Censor Board on modification of the ‘disclaimer’ rule. But he realized that too many people were at stake in his fight. The production cost of making a film and everyone’s expectations with respect to this film can’t be put at stake for one disclaimer. He talked about the fight still being carries out but the film is releasing tomorrow.
Well to expect the rule of the enforcing of disclaimer to be removed is a bit doubtful as the other argument of people being influenced is to some extent valid.
We can still expect for a little modification in the rule. Like take an extra safe shot where the smoker in the scene removes the cigarette from the packet and the disclaimer on the packet is properly focused. So when the Censor Board asks to put the disclaimer you at least have a point to your defense that you did make the disclaimer.
The trailer of this film definitely creates a goose bump effect. Eagerly waiting for its release tomorrow.
