Can you really fall in love with someone on the net and make it last? Well, it’s quite possible. But…but…it’s mostly a stupid idea, here’s why. Read on:
Are you really chatting/following HIM/HER?
This is one of the most nagging doubts we all have. Despite their assurance and barrage of photographs, one can never be sure if one if talking to who the person claims to be. Could it be somebody faking their profiles to hook up or could it be somebody who is of the same sex as you are and simply messing with you (if you’re straight, that is). Do a thorough research before having wet dreams about THE one on the internet.
Too much, too soon:
Unlike conventional dating, social networking sites open up a plethora of options. From knowing his/her likes and dislikes to checking out their whereabouts, you come to of their personalities rather well. While it may act as an ice-breaker, it doesn’t add any sparks to the relationship. In fact, it makes dating seem like a game of conquest than a fun ‘getting-to-know-you’ phase.
Creeps galore:
You might find a nice dude or a sweet girl online, sure. But chances of you coming across total creeps are more. Due to the invisibility factor, many jerks make use of social networking platforms to harass, abuse and stalk strangers. If somebody becomes obsessed with you or your pictures, your life will turn upside down for sure. So be very careful before sharing pictures, contact information and other sensitive stuff with anybody on the net.
Distance issues:
Sometimes, you could end up meeting someone from another city or country. While long distance relationships can be worked out, it’s pretty tough in the initial days when he/she is too far away. And if the chances of you two meeting are low, the probability of the relationship working out is zero. There could be attraction and even mutual respect, but love needs something extra. In this generation at least.
Dumb status updates can turn you off:
If you manage to fall in love before being acquainted with their social media presence, awesome. But if you’re finding love on the internet and are going through his/her profile…you might come across dumb status updates that can turn you off. For good.
Do a thorough check and insist on having a ‘Hangout’ session or Skype calls before actually meeting him/her in person. Don’t choose a secluded place for the date and always have a couple of friends on speed dial or nearby for ‘jerk-alert’.
