By sending his decision for vote to Congress, Obama strengthened America’s believe that Congress should be empowered and that it should be informed before any military decision.
As strong headed US president Barack Obama is, he is also considered a man of integrity who is very liberal. He was, in fact, elected due to the Iraq war. He has been seen as a man who is anti-war. But he faced ire of the people when he made a statement about his decision to take the route of military intervention in Syria.
Although his message was clear that the proposed attack will be “limited” and intended only to stop Syria from use of chemical weapons again, critiques accused him of treading on the path of war.
The recent statement of Obama deciding to send his proposal to Congress for getting their approval is a smart move indeed.
One may say that he weakened America’s position by back-tracking his words. Also, it might embolden the petty dictators of Iran and North Korea. But one should also see that it is a desperate attempt by the US president to save his face in public and evading the tag of a war-monger.
Sure Secretary of State backed his move, almost making it impossible for him to backtrack, but Obama found a way to solve all problems.
