As promised, the ace car manufacturer Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) launched the 11th generation of the Corolla – the Toyota Corolla Altis, on Tuesday, 27th May 2014.
Available in 5 petrol and 4 diesel variants, the premium sedan model was unveiled in February at the Auto Expo 2014. Toyota had opened the bookings for this all-new upgraded model from March at a minimal deposit of Rs 50,000, and as scheduled, the delivery would begin now.
At the launch, Toyota MD Naomi Ishii said, “Corolla is the world’s most favorite car. It is the world’s No 1 car with more than 40 million cars sold across the globe…We are glad to launch the 11th generation of this global car in India.”
Other than the Innova and Fortuner, none of the recent Toyota models created any stir in the Indian Auto Market. Toyota now banks on its newest baby to churn some good profits.
The 2014 Toyota Corolla Altis dons a smarter and more attractive look, as compared to its predecessor. It does away with all the drawbacks of the earlier model, and flaunts Toyota’s ‘New Design Language’.
The car, with a length of 4,620mm, width of 1,776mm, and height of 1,475mm, is longer & wider than the preceding model.
The significant Toyota Corolla Altis features include dual-barrel headlamps with LEDs, an imposing chrome front grille, impressive 2,700mm wheelbase, reclining rear-seats, and more.
Toyota Corolla Altis interiors are as appealing as the Toyota Corolla Altis exteriors. With many upgraded features, including satellite navigation and touch-screen infotainment system, the car adopts many specs from the Camry & the Furia concept cars, unveiled in 2013 in Detroit.
The Toyota Corolla Altis price range for the petrol versions is Rs 11.99 lakh to Rs 16.89 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and that for the diesel variants is Rs 13.07 lakh to Rs 16.68 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
One of the major features that Toyota has not changed is the engine of the car. The new model will come with the same 1.8-litre VVTi petrol engine and the 1.4-litre D4-D diesel engine mustering 140PS & 90PS of power respectively. Both mills will possess six-speed manual gearboxes, though the high-end petrol version may get a 7-speed CVT gearbox.
This new offering from the house of Toyota has already received a good welcome with several bookings made since March. With spacious interiors and exciting new exteriors, the car certainly looks propitious.
