Presently, Sony Xperia Z2 and Samsung Galaxy S5 are the biggest contenders in the top-Android smartphone segment.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 and Sony Xperia Z2 are the latest and top-Android smartphones launched by their respective manufacturers in 2014.
Both the handsets are directly competing with each other to find a place in the buyer’s pocket and grab a share of his cheque. On one hand, where, Sony Xperia Z2 appears the more attractive one, with next-gen camera specs, lots of RAM, great battery, and incredible display, Samsung Galaxy S5 attracts customers owing to its edgy performance, unique apps, and chunk of features, particularly the S-Health, heart rate monitor, & fingerprint scanner. However, one cannot forget that they also have their caveats and nuances.
Design & Built
With almost similar dimensions, the Galaxy S5 weighs 145g, while Xperia Z2 weighs 163g, a tad heavier as compared to its rival. The rounded form factor of Galaxy S5 produces an ergonomic design, whereas, the Xperia Z2 sports a rectangular, clear-cut, & glass-and-metal body. Both the models flaunt dust & water-resistant features.
Display
The Galaxy S5 ships with a 5.2-inch 1080p Super AMOLED display and the Xperia Z2 poses a 5.1-inch 1080p Triluminous LCD screen. With great color temperature and peak brightness, Z2 fares slightly better as compared to its competitor in terms of display.
Features
With a 2.3GHz, quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, Sony’s flagship offers a powerful chip. Galaxy S5’s octa-core Exynos 5420 unit bearing 1.9 GHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A15 and 1.3 GHz ARM Cortex-A7 also provides a power-packed performance. However, Xperia Z2 scores more on the memory front, by offering a remarkable 3 GB of RAM in comparison to Galaxy S5’s 2 gigs of RAM. Samsung’s TouchWiz UI toppled on Android 4.4.2 Kit Kat offers truckload of features, whereas, the Xperia Theme provided by Sony Xperia Z2 is a light interface. On one hand, where, value-added features of Samsung Galaxy S5 include fingerprint scanner, heart rate monitor, and S Health App, there aren’t any cool features of Sony Xperia Z2, which may set it apart from the others in the race.
Storage
Both the handsets bring on board a built-in storage of 16 GB, expandable up to 128 GB via Micro SD card.
Camera
In the camera department, Sony Xperia Z2 leagues ahead by virtue of its higher megapixel camera at the rear & front, and a dedicated camera key. While Xperia Z2 comes loaded with a whopping 20.7 MP rear camera, 2.2 MP front-facing snapper, and a 120fps HD slow-motion video capturing facility, Samsung Galaxy S5 has a 16 MP rear camera, 2 MP front-facing shooter, and fast focus functionality. Both the smartphones, however, come integrated with a slew of camera features, such as geo-tagging, touch focus, face & smile detection, image stabilization, video recording, HDR Mode, and more.
Battery Life
Powered by a 2,800 mAh juicer, the Samsung Galaxy S5 comes packed with removable battery option, wireless charging facility, and ultra power save mode. Sony Xperia Z2 holds a larger unit at 3200 mAh and provides a wireless charging feature & Stamina mode.

To declare an ultimate winner, is not easy. Both the smartphones belong to the zero-compromise genre, and yet have their own identities. Both are great and expensive devices, using high-end technologies, and offering best-in-class configurations. However, the final choice will largely depend on the style and preference of the potential buyer
