One of the most compelling issues the couples face is the idea of ‘taking of a break’.

Whether you’re Ross and Rachel from Friends (who were on a break), or everyday couples juggling careers, maddening expenses and love doses, taking a break is quite necessary if things aren’t working out between you two.

What’s the point of investing so much in a relationship that’s going nowhere, right? Here’s how taking a break is a good idea…

Too much, too soon:
Sometimes you meet somebody and your mind screams ‘he/she is the one’. That’s when you start taking things too fast, so fast that they spin out of control and you end up hurting each other. Whether it’s your decision to be exclusive or to get intimate or to move-in, anything that’s too much, too soon can ruin a relationship. If you’re caught up in something like this, it’s better to call it quits for a while. Take stock of things and understand what you and your partner needs.

Constant arguments:
Although mature couples try to work it out by having practical arguments, it can sometimes get out of hands. Despite your ability to solve them, these can get irritating as too many fights mean compatibility issues. Being with somebody shouldn’t turn out to be a preparation for a battle, it should be natural and enjoyable. If your bickering is out of control, take a break to figure stuff out.

Different things, different needs:
However attractive and amazing your partner is, there are times when you both want totally different things for each other. It’s not about not being in love with each other or not caring for each other, it’s more to do with you both having different needs. Why should you put up with something that might not have any future at all…it’s better to take a break to realise if your own needs are more important than the person’s company.

Longing for freedom:
Yes, we all love our freedom. It’s kind of a given, right? But what happens when you’re dating somebody who tries to monitor your every move and action? You get worked up and end up biting their head off. To avoid such an outburst, it’s better to go your separate ways for a while. It makes no sense to curb your freedom for someone who doesn’t appreciate any of it.

Taking a break definitely helps your figure stuff in your head. Do you miss that person so much that you are willing to overlook all the minor issues? Do you feel that he/she is worth fighting every single battle? Well, you have your answer then…
