Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi declared his relationship status in his affidavit while filing his nomination paper from Vadodara and all the hell broke loose. Had it been Facebook people might have congratulated him for declaring that he was married. But the matter took a different course in the media.
The BJP prime ministerial nominee has declared in his affidavit that he is married to Jashodaben. Earlier he used to leave the column blank. According to a Times of India report, “the declaration is reported to have come after strict legal advice that he come clean on the marriage which, his family members say, was never consummated.”
However, the other details about his wife, like her pan card and financial details, were declared as ‘not known’.
The Congress party, for quite some time, had been throwing dirt over Modi regarding his relationship status. Their stinky politics increased when Indian Express published an interview with Jashodaben where she had said, “I have never gone to meet him and we have never been in touch. I don’t think he will ever call me. In whatever I say, I do not want it to harm him. I just wish that he progresses in whatever he does. I know he will become PM one day!”
After that, the Congress had raised its pitch and had said that Modi should come clean on his marital status while filing nomination papers for the Lok Sabha elections.
Now that the information has been accepted by Modi in his affidavit, the party and its sycophants have started saying that the person who did not took care of his wife will not be able to take care of the country. Also, they have dubbed Modi as a liar.
It should be noted that leaving the columns blank about personal information, which is not mandatory according to Election Commission, does not amount to lying. The practice is done by many MLAs. So, Modi not naming his wife in affidavits is a personal matter.
Also Modi chose to remain out of his marital life and encouraged his wife to study which made her an independent woman (Jashodaben is a teacher). He never entered into any relationship even when his marriage was not consummated. So what is the harm if he wants to remain silent on his private life? At least he is not an accused of his wife’s murder like some (read Shashi Tharoor) in Congress party are!
