Kejriwal has his pick: Seeks referendum on forming government with Congress

This is another masterstroke by Keriwal in which, if the public replies in affirmative, AAP will form government with Congress support and get away with the issues of credibility on it.

The Aam Aadmi party held its meeting in the national capital over the government formation propositions in front of it. After its political affairs group failed to take any decision, the newly elected Mas were summoned at the meeting venue to discuss the government forming prospects.

AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal finally addressed the media in the evening. In the brief interaction with the media, Kejriwal said that the party will seek referendum on the issue of forming government in Delhi.

Saying that the party was awaiting reply from two major parties – Congress and BJP – on the 18 demands put forth by it in a letter before taking or extending its support to these two parties, in which Congress party had only sent the reply.

Ridiculing BJP president Rajnath Singh over not replying to his letter, Kejriwal said that there were reports in the media that Singh will not write back to AAP. “I hear in the media that they said they won’t write back. At least in democracy they should reply to the letter. Rajnath is a big man, we are plain aam aadmi,” he said.

“If Rajnath thought replying to us was below his stature then he should have asked someone else to reply like Sonia Gandhi did and asked Shakeel Ahmed to reply to our letter,” he further added.

Saying that the party will take the views of the people, he said that a letter written by him asking them what they thought of forming a government with Congress, will be distributed among the people. Kejriwal said that 25 lakh copies of the letter will be distributed among people along with public-meeting held by their members in all the 70 constituencies.

People can phone in, send a text message, or leave a message on the AAP Facebook page casting their vote on the issue till Sunday. The party will then give its final decision in writing to the Lt Governor Najeeb Jung.

There is no denying that the recent move by AAP is an addition to its delaying tactics and another exercise of evading responsibility and capacity of taking a decision on its own. However, it should also be called a clever move where Kejriwal and his party will be praised for involving people more in its working.

Interestingly, BJP nowhere surfaces in the question of government formation indicating that AAP and Kejriwal already have their pick. This is another masterstroke by Keriwal in which, if the public replies in affirmative, AAP will form government with Congress support and get away with the issues of credibility on it.
