Mark, who invented Facebook- which has now indeed made the world smaller, in a dorm room of college, is now raking in billion dollars.
The question that comes in our minds is HOW? Of course he has something unique in him that’s why he is youngest billionaire on face of earth.
His innovative idea and success of Facebook was born because of his unique approach and thinking.
Here are some of the things about Mark which makes him what he is today and we as well as budding entrepreneurs can take some serious notes of life from him.
1… Important to take risks.
He always knew that taking risks result in accomplishments. The biggest risk is not taking any risk… In a world that is changing really quickly, the only strategy that is guaranteed to fail is not taking risks.”, he said.
2… Passion and love for work is important. Important than money too.
He never thought of earning or growing rich first and came up with idea of Facebook. He said that he was not aware about business, he just knew that he loves coding and created a website so that people can communicate.
“I’d never met anyone who would walk away from a billion dollars,” said Terry Semel, who, as CEO of Yahoo!, offered Zuckerberg that sum for the company he’d built. Zuckerberg refused, explaining it wasn’t about the money.
He knew that if he work with passion money will eventually pour in.
3… Service and more and more better service is the key to success.
We don’t build services to make money; we make money to build better services.”
He attributed the success of Facebook, which has indeed made world smaller with billion people connecting on it, by saying that he cared more.
“When I look back over the last 10 years, one of the questions that I ask myself is, why were we the ones to help do this? And I think a lot of what it comes down to is, we just cared more.”
He believes in better services so that people. Facebook literally dominates social media and is number one leaving behind many including ‘Myspace’ in the race. Why? Mainly because of they were busy thinking on how to monetize and Mark was busy on how to be best site. And you can see the result.
4… Done is better than perfect
You may think that we just like Mark believe in lot of ideal things which leads us to success but what makes him top notch ? The major and (only for some) difference is that he also believes in action and sustenance. And we unfortunately fail to do things through the entrepreneurial process. So it is vital to know that commitment is more important than dreaming.
5… Take up challenges, learn new things and be independent.
These are some more virtues that Mark believes in. He doesn’t crib about how he has no time for himself or family. He makes sure he has time for earning new things especially challenging ones and also take care of family and extended family as he believes that money has not more worth than people. He says every one is born with some skill, so one should hone and develop them.
6… Go Big Or Go Home
He started his firm at small level and didn’t wait for millions to flow in first but he made sure he had big and long term goals and broader vision.
He always had great purpose
“Facebook was not originally created to be a company. It was built to accomplish a social mission – to make the world more open and connected.”
7…. Move fast and break things!
If you aren’t making mistakes, you aren’t moving fast enough.
He said in one of the speeches, “Most companies mess up by moving too slowly and trying to be too precise. When you’re…moving quickly or doing anything like this you want to make mistakes evenly on both sides. We wanted to set up a culture so that we were equally messing up by moving too quickly and by moving too slowly some of the time. So that way, we’d know that we were in the middle.”
