- Banana Sandwich: The concept had germinated inside the Goan mind of my hungry roomie and I just tweaked it a bit. The result was surprisingly quite delectable. Take two slices of brown bread and spread a layer of mayonnaise. Put some thin slices of banana, sprinkle a pinch of salt and pepper an close the sandwich. Melt butter on a pan and toast the sandwich until it develops a crispy surface.
- Marmalade and cheese: The slushy sweetness of marmalade and the salty creaminess of cheese go pretty well with each other. Try including this combo in your burgers and sandwiches, and it will delight you with an unusual flavour, quite different from what you are used to having. Or, take out some marmalade in a bowl, grate some cheese over it and whip, and use it as a dip for nachos.
- Fries with chocolate syrup: Perfectly crisped French fries, sprinkled with a bit of salt and pepper, and dipped in molten chocolate or drizzled over with Hershey’s syrup. Try out and do let me know how you found the taste.
- Pancakes with peanut butter and maple syrup: Pancakes with maple syrup and lemon curd are the conventional combinations. But, the twist comes when you spoon a layer of peanut butter on a pancake, which could even be a flavoured one like banana pancake, and dip small chunks into maple syrup and savour.
- Maggi and mango pickle: We have been brought up on Maggi and for a lot of us who are living away from home, it still is the staple food. Naturally, we have all tried our culinary geniuses at dishing out variations of the humble noodles. Now, for once, just make your Maggi by conventional standards and when the piping hot goodness is lying on your plate, throw in a spoonful of some mango pickle masala. If it’s homemade, then nothing like it. Mix well and devour.
- Wafers and melted ice cream: Dip your plain slated potato wafers, the non-branded ones, which you get in transparent plastic packet, into molten vanilla, strawberry, chocolate or any ice cream flavour of your choice and have. You won’t regret.
- Parle G dipped in lukewarm water: I have great respect for all you Parle G fans out there. I haven’t tasted a cheaper, better biscuit than the good old Parle G in my life. Instead of dipping your biscuit in a cup of hot chai, whether it’s yours or somebody else’s, get yourself a cup of lukewarm water. Dip the biscuit in it and enjoy. Not only will the biscuit wonderfully melt in your mouth at the slightest behest, the water will also balance out the sugar in it, instead of adding to its sweetness like tea would.
- Cheese and chocolate: Get your hands on a thick block of dark chocolate and some parmesan and you will be sorted. If you have tried adding a pinch of salt on your chocolate and you liked the flavour, this one will surely delight you with its added creaminess. Grate some cheese on your choc bar and enjoy.
- Strawberries and balsamic vinegar: In a mixing bowl, throw some chopped strawberry and two teaspoons on balsamic vinegar. Stir well and savour the sweet-tart flavour.
- Samosa and momos chutney: We have been used to eating samosas with green and red chutneys. Once, when I was in college, I mistakenly dipped my samosa in that red fiery chutney you get along with momos, and I was so much pleased with the wonderful flavour it brought out that till date, if given an option, I have my samosa with momos chutney and don’t even look at the conventional condiments.
