Say hello to the latest entrant into ICC Cricket’s Hall of Fame!
Magical spinner, Anil Kumble, who we lovingly call ‘Jumbo’, is finally getting inducted into the most prestigious cricket hall of fame.
The former Indian captain and current Chairman of the ICC Cricket Committee will be conferred with the honour of being the 77th member to be inducted into this league of extraordinary cricketing greats during India’s World Cup match against South Africa on Sunday.
Kumble, will become the fourth Indian cricketer to be inducted into Hall of Fame, which includes former Team India captains KapilDev, BishenSingh Bedi and Sunil Gavaskar.
Induction Ceremony
Wally Edwards, ICC’s Director and Chairman of Cricket Australia will be presenting Kumble with a commemorative cap marking his induction into the hall of fame.
Kumble was delightful at this development and told the media that, ‘It is an honor to be inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame. It will be a great moment of pride to receive it during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. I deem it as a great privilege to join the list of great cricketing luminaries.’
Anil Kumble: The Phenomenon
- Kumble has 619 Test wickets to his name making him the third highest wicket-clincher in Test cricketing history.
- His early retirement during his prime years makes Shane Warne (708 wickets), the second highest and MuttiahMuralitharan (800 wickets) the top test wicket-taker.
- In ODIshe has 337 wickets ranking him ninth in the overall wickets tally.
- He was our test team captain India during 2007 and 2008 where he led India in 14 Tests.
- He is the second bowler in cricketing history to have clinched 10 wickets against a country in a test innings. England’s Jim Laker is the other player who managed to achieve this insurmountable feat. This record of Kumble might never ever be broken. Kumble booked this record to his name after decimating the Pakistan team in New Delhi during a test match in February 1999.
- India has most test wins under his bowling attack.
- His leg-break googly was the envy of rival bowlers Shane Warne and MuttiahMuralitharan.

Cricketing Career
- He made his Test debut in Manchester during August 1990 against England.
- His final Test match was against Australia in New Delhi in October-November 2008.
- His ODI debut was during the India v Sri Lanka match at Sharjah in April 1990.
- His last ODI was against Bermuda in the Bermuda v India match at Port of Spain in March 2007
- He played a total of 132 Tests and 271 One-Day Internationals.
- He took a total of 619 Test and 337 ODI wickets.
- He scored 2,506 runs in Tests, 938 runs in ODIs and 5572 runs in First-class cricket.
Kumble will be formally inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame during the innings break in the India vs. South Africa match at MCG this weekend.
