Jairam Ramesh and his Congress does selective reading when he calls Muzaffarnagar riots a mere blot on UP CM Akhilesh Yadav’s career and in-cashes Narendra Modi’s failure during 2002 Gujarat riots as and when needed.
Just a day after accusing Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav of being “masterly inactive” over the Muzaffarnagar riots, rural development minister Jairam Ramesh was quick with sending another message across the nation. He has now blasted the opposition Bhartiya Janata Party and ruling Samajwadi Party in UP for creating the whole scenario for vote gains in elctions.
“I am absolutely shocked, disappointed, angry at his (Akhilesh’s) masterly inactivity on Muzaffarnagar. Cynical, absolutely cynical, what he has done,” he was reported saying. “I am not accusing Akhilesh Yadav of engineering the riots. I am accusing Akhilesh Yadav of sleeping when the riots were happening,” he had said when asked whether the UP Chief Minister had failed to fulfill his “raj dharma” like Modi during the 2002 riots in Gujarat.
“He cannot run away from his responsibility. People wanted the young Chief Minister to do something for the state, but it is unfortunate that after the Muzaffarnagar violence they cannot take him seriously,” he had further added.
“I believe poll preparations for the coming 2014 elections have started from Muzaffarnagar… it is the trailer of Samajwadi Party and BJP,” Ramesh told reporters in Lucknow today. Drawing swords on the BJP, he said that the party’s intention to contest Lok Sabha elections on the basis of communal tension became clear when it made Amit Shah party in-charge in the state.
Interestingly, yesterday he had called Akhilesh Yadav inexperienced and Muzaffarnagar riots a mere blot on his career. But it seemed less of an accusation given his party’s earlier positions. He probably forgot that his own party never ceased to saw 2002 Gujarat riots as major political event which they in-cash against BJP as and when needed. Neither his party called the incidence a blot for Narendra Modi’s exceptional career, nor it attributed to his inexperience as he was very new to the administration.
Moreover, he simply forgot that his own partymen were involved in inciting the mob words on whom is still unheard by the people. Also, he forgot to mention that the Prime Minister, Congress high command and their (probably) future leader visited the riot hit area with the same motive of vote-mongering.
He is also forgetting that he a part of the government which forgot where the coal block files were placed. Whether they were created in the first place is another matter of concern. The recent example can be army’s internal report on which the government was sitting “unaware’ from the past six months before it got leaked in the media.
But reminding him all this will be of no use if he and his party is hell bent on selective reading and remembering of events.
